Terry Kilbane is the architect for a house my husband (David) and I are building at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona. Working with Terry is a wonderful experience and we enthusiastically offer this letter of recommendation.
There are numerous things that make terry and his work special and I will describe a few of those characteristics.
Probably most importantly, Terry is an outstanding listener. The very first draft of our floor plan incorporated not only the major things that David and I had discussed with Terry in our planning meetings, but also included subtle thing he picked up form our casual conversations. The result was a design that reflected everything on our "wish list". We really feel that Terry has designed a house for us - not a monument to himself.
Terry is masterful at positioning a house on a property to maximize the good views and minimize or eliminate any bad views. He also has the ability to envision how to deal with a difficult terrain. Our lot has a significant elevation change and Terry's design makes the house very livable.
Terry is extremely creative - as evidence by the variety of styles he designs. He also has made an art form out of otherwise mundane things like garage doors, ceilings and pool gate.
Terry recognizes that the functionality of the inside of a house is just as important as the aesthetics of the outside- so his rooms are spacious and relate well to one another.
I could go on and on, but I Know this letter can only be one page. In closing, I will add that terry has a good sense of humor and is a delight to work with. No change is too much trouble and he really wants the end result to be perfect. His attention to detail is extraordinary. We have the highest level of confidence in Terry and would not hesitate to recommend him. If you are thinking of hiring an architect, you should talk to Terry.
